Interview with Jishore Abic

Author of BORED of DIRECTORS

Interviewer:
Jishore, it’s wonderful to have you here. Let’s start from the beginning. How did your journey in finance and leadership begin?
Jishore Abic:
Thank you! My journey began in a small village in Kerala, India, where I first discovered my love for numbers and leadership. Over the years, I’ve worked in many roles—from being a CFO to advising boards—and each step taught me something new. Every challenge shaped the leader I am today.
Interviewer:
That’s inspiring. Now, let’s talk about your book, BORED of DIRECTORS. You say many leaders feel stuck after spending years in high positions. Can you explain what that means?
Jishore Abic:
Definitely. A lot of leaders, especially those who’ve been in the C-suite for a long time, start feeling like they’ve hit a plateau. They get bored or feel like they’re just going through the motions. BORED of DIRECTORS is my wake-up call to them—it says, “You’re not done yet. There’s still more to learn, more to achieve, and more to give.” The book is full of real stories and ideas to help leaders find their spark again.
Interviewer:
What kind of tools or strategies does the book offer that leaders can use right away?
Jishore Abic:
The book is full of practical tools. For example, there’s a board evaluation template that helps leaders review how well their boards are working. I’ve also included easy-to-use frameworks for planning, risk management, and decision-making. These tools help leaders stay sharp and make better choices.
Interviewer:
How can these tools help leaders in their everyday work?
Jishore Abic:
These tools take complex tasks and make them simple. They save time, give clarity, and help leaders stay focused on what matters most. When you’re not stuck in the details, you can look ahead, lead better, and build a stronger organization.
Interviewer:
How do you encourage leaders to keep learning?
Jishore Abic:
I believe real leaders never stop learning. They’re always curious and open to new ideas. Whether it’s attending a workshop, reading a book, or just talking to peers, staying curious keeps you relevant—and motivated. In the book, I encourage leaders to build that kind of culture in their teams too.
Interviewer:
And how can leaders balance daily tasks with long-term goals?
Jishore Abic:
It’s all about trust. A good leader empowers the team to handle the daily work while staying focused on the big picture. Set clear goals, give the right support, and let your team grow. When everyone’s aligned, amazing things happen.
Interviewer:
You also talk about diversity in leadership. Why does that matter?
Jishore Abic:
Diversity brings fresh perspectives. Different backgrounds mean different ideas—and that’s a good thing. A diverse board makes smarter decisions, spots risks earlier, and encourages innovation. It’s not just a “nice to have”—it’s a must for modern leadership.
Interviewer:
Ethics is another big topic. How can leaders make tough decisions while staying honest?
Jishore Abic:
Ethics is non-negotiable. Leaders must always do what’s right, even when it’s hard. Be transparent, think long-term, and never compromise your values. That’s how you build trust and respect—from your team and the world.
Interviewer:
And how does empathy fit into leadership?
Jishore Abic:
Empathy is powerful. When leaders truly care about their people, everything changes. Teams become more engaged, more loyal, and more driven. Listen to your team. Understand them. That human connection is what makes great leaders stand out.
Interviewer:
How do you personally stay motivated during tough times?
Jishore Abic:
I always remind myself of why I’m doing what I do. Leadership isn’t just about power—it’s about impact. When times are hard, I focus on the bigger picture and the difference I can make. That keeps me going—and I share that mindset in the book.
Interviewer:
Innovation is essential today. How can leaders encourage it?
Jishore Abic:
Create a space where ideas can grow. Let people try new things, and don’t punish failure. Encourage curiosity and celebrate creative thinking. Innovation thrives in environments where people feel safe to experiment.
Interviewer:
Last question—what kind of leaders do you hope to see in the future?
Jishore Abic:
I hope we see more leaders who are not just smart, but kind. Leaders with purpose, vision, and compassion. Those who care deeply about their teams and the world around them. That’s the kind of leadership we need now—and in the future.
Interviewer:
Jishore, thank you for this inspiring conversation. Your words—and your book—are sure to motivate many.
Jishore Abic:
Thank you so much. It’s been a pleasure. I hope BORED of DIRECTORS helps leaders reignite their passion and lead with purpose. There’s always more ahead if we’re brave enough to keep moving forward.
